Perhaps the “riding it out to 27” refers to mike d. approaching his 27th birthday, maybe going through some difficulties during this year, thinking that the new year may hold fabulous wonders that will surpass all that he has already experienced, and/or that he will be refreshed and revitalized in the upcoming year. Happy Upcoming Birthday, Mike D!
It’s “morning comes to sunrise”, and that’s really depressing Mike. But on the upside, with “the” you’re #2 in a google search of that phrase. Surprisingly, even with “to”, you’re still #4. Weird…
I looked up various definitions of daytime. Some sources define daytime as sunrise to sunset, in which case, morning could not come to sunrise. Other sources define it as the time period when the earth is naturally illuminated, beginning with the pre-rise period of light before the sun actually crests the horizon and ending after dusk when the last traces of light can be seen. In that case, morning could come to sunrise, not much later than it began. I guess we know what camp Stephen was in…
Of course, I assumed that sunrise begins when the sun crests the horizon. You could always argue the “rise” is happening once you start to see light. Whatever, poetic license trumps all!

Hmm. I think “morning comes the sunrise” makes more sense than “morning comes to sunrise” even though the latter is a famous lyric.
Morning comes WITH sunrise makes more sense.
