Knowing Kurt and Ryan at least more than most people on this website who've never met either of them, I'm 100% sure that Kurt is 10 times more boring an individual...at least.
I mean, just the other day I noticed somebody urinating on my house from a parasail above, covered in fireworks, simultaneously juggling chainsaws while dressed in a Power Ranger costume, his hair made entirely out of electrical tape.
Schenk is CRAZY.

I feel compelled to share a passage from the first chapter of the book I'm currently reading (If on a winter's night a traveller by Italo Calvino). Seems appropriate. If you're too impatient to read the whole passage, (somewhat long) at least hit up paragraph 8 which begins "In the shop window..." and read for a bit. The book is, well, different.

It seems there is less and less time for reading as life goes on. Everything gets so busy. I'd love to have scads of books to read all the time, but I doubt I'll ever read as much as I already have.

I think as I get through an absurd amount of books I would be adding books to that list for years to catch up to the amount I have read so far in my life!

I'm just awed by the number of books in existence. It's amazing that someone can have read nearly a hundred books, and none of them are the same hundred or so that I've read.

I got past this jesse, by not clicking any compilations. I've read several compilations, but ot till after the first print was read. So I have several trilogies on there with current compilations. I just read the books individually before they put them together to make more money.

Whenever I'm daunted by the amount of reading somebody's done beyond me, I just think to myself - I've probably eaten way more than them. Regardless of their age - even your sisters who are both older than me - I reckon I've eaten way more that I can even remember than they have in the entirety of both of their lives put together.

Ah, the far too overloaded term "book". Obviously they are not using FRBR. While you are using "book" to mean a work, they are using "book" to mean a manifestation.

i just made a profile, and i don't like the way it treats series as "1 book". for example, i read The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide (6 books treated as 1), Four Complete Novels by Mark Twain (guess how many it was) and Lord of the Rings Trilogy. i feel i'm getting short changed with my "54". should be "64" just by the above recalc, and i'm not sure that was everything

What standards are we following for length? I feel like a Golden Book shouldn't count for the same as, oh, Anna Karenina for example. Are people with 100+ books counting a short story as a book? I've read a lot of stuff that fits neatly between two covers and probably wouldn't qualify. It will be interesting some day when all books have been scanned into the internet (ref. Google's attempts to do so) and we can actually break our habits down by total characters, words, sentences, etc. - i.e. reading level. I'd be willing to bet "your" 50 books and "my" 50 books probably vary by quite a lot.

I just made a list two days ago (completely at random) of every book I can remember reading starting at around 5th grade, and I have around 55, which I thought would have been more... It's strange to me that this post showed up 2 days later.

Darn. I'm only at 92. I wonder if I should add the Bobsey Twins books. If I include everything I read as a child, my list would never end.
