      The Answer to Schenk’s Question

February 5th, 2008 by mike d. in The Page

      currently eating: banana

In the post in the quickthoughts section today I beckoned the MikeDiDonato.com readers to switch to firefox. Ryan Schenk asked what the browser stats are for this website.

      Great question Ryan!

Let’s take a look at the last 100 visitors.

Oooh, exciting! let’s add the varieties together for a better picture.

      Firefox: 47%
      IE: 46%
      Safari: 7%

FIREFOX WINS! but… just barely. That means that 46% of my readers are looking at a broken Internet Explorer page. It’s not pretty! let’s get some screen shots so y’all can see the differences.

      First, IE.

Notice the poor colors in the Quickthoughts and the Features section? NASTY! Even more disturbing is that if I post a picture… the post flies down to the bottom of the screen. WEAK!

      Now, Firefox.

Oh what elegant colors! And all the posts are lining up just right. Let’s make 2008 a great year for MikeDiDonato.com

Let’s all get rid of Internet Explorer.

      Switch to Firefox.

February 5th, 2008 by mike d. in Quickthoughts

I heard an alarming stat yesterday. 70% of internet users use Internet Explorer.
70%!?!? Yikes! if you’re using IE, it’s really time to make the switch to Mozilla Firefox (17% of internet users are enlightened). It is a much more robust window to the internets. Also, if you’re using Internet […]

70%!?!? Yikes! if you’re using IE, it’s really time to make the switch to Mozilla Firefox (17% of internet users are enlightened). It is a much more robust window to the internets. Also, if you’re using Internet Explorer this website will not appear in all its glory.

So if only for mikeDiDonato.com, make the switch.

      Stapler.

February 5th, 2008 by mike d. in Quickthoughts

Whoever invented the Stapler really deserves some appreciation. Who would ever think to bind pieces of paper together with tiny strips of metal?

A quick check of Wikipedia informs us that the stapler was in fact invented by George W. McGill. He snagged the patent in 1866. Apparently the idea of fastening piles of paper with metals was in use before this though, even way back in the 18th century by the French royal court for royal papers.

      Staplers are great.

      The Ultimate PB&J

February 5th, 2008 by mike d. in Features

Jesse tells us of the ultimate PB&J. Take it away Jesse!

Some say it was for the glory… others, the ridiculousness of the challenge. Never before had something of this magnitude been completed in so daring a fashion! At times, it was almost CERTAIN that all would be lost. It couldn’t hold together, it shouldn’t! God did not intend such creations! Only a maniac…

My PB&J was ~63.5mm (2.5”) tall! Realize, my bread slices were compressed under the serious load and even at max only measured about 12mm (0.5”). That means we’re talking AT LEAST 38mm (1.5”) of guts, likely more. 38mm (1.5”) may not seem like a lot, but when you’re trying to get jelly not to burst out EVERYWHERE, you need to take some serious considerations; like building a super sound retaining wall of peanut butter deliciousness, the likes of which two tasty slices of harvest multi-grain have never held!

      Gchat logos.

February 5th, 2008 by mike d. in PaintBrush!

      currently eating: tasty tasty calzone.

I’ve been working on a bunch of MSPaint GChat logos for people. It all started when Andrew and Ben happened to snag MSPaint images from the 720 adventure to use as their icons.

I had a vision… how many people’s Gchat icons could I populate with MSPaint images. I’ve been making a few. Kate from Ohio put one up, Jill’s got one, Cindy too, and I’m working on one for Max and Adam. How absurdly fun.

I just can’t get enough of MSPaint.
