Bigfoot
Bigfoot 14 set a world record for longest jump, over a 727 airplane, of 202 feet.
What’s amazing is he actually landed the thing without his wheel(s) flying off.
During this time he also set a monster truck land speed record of 69.3mph.

I got 57%. I am ashamed.

If you ever do get your monster truck stuck, you’ll know who to call.
Authored by: mike d.Polls will close tomorrow at about 10am. That will give us enough time to do the quarterfinal round for the two big trees… followed by the semi-finals (battle 21 and 22 on the bracket of band names.)
The final battle will take place at noon on the 31st. And the month will end with a righteous band name chosen by the people. Although, I give no promise that this is actually the name our band will choose… we’ll at least consider it.
Rock.

My Mac has a camera mounted inside it (that’s how I took all those facial hair pictures), and this program called “photo booth” which
lets you apply all sorts of idiotic effects to the pictures that the camera takes. Here is one of them.

I do not have a tattoo, but my sister Megan has the symbol Pi on her hip/stomach area. Totally nerdy!
Authored by: mike d.This is my tattoo. As you might be able to tell, I got it when I was 18. Ruth drew it, so it is probably a good thing that we are now married. One interesting thing you might notice is that I have a mole just Southeast of the center of the tattoo. They don’t tattoo over moles, that way if they turn cancerous, the doctor will be able to tell. Cool, huh?

I don’t have a tatoo. But I want to talk about my friends tatoo. It is probably the most random tatoo ever created. So my friend Ian has quite a few peices of Ink. And he was thinking of getting one on his calf. Here is what he decided on:
A Mastadon fighting a Humpback Whale over a destroyed burning City with Paratroopers jumping out of a Helicopter.
Thats right. Check out the photo.

This was my first tattoo. It was done in three parts, but that wasn’t planned. Each year I added a part because I thought it would look better as more of a scene type design. The first thing done was the large butterfly in the middle, then the other two were added, and finally the flowers (color) and vines were added. This is the final design, and I’m happy with it. There is no particular special meaning behind it, but the entire thing my original art. The next piece of work will be unrelated to this, and was actually designed by a fellow reader, Jesse! Though it should be said, Jesse is not half as cool as Mike D.
Authored by: mike d.As you may or may not know, I have 2 tat’s right now. Being the man of mystery that I am, I’ll let the people see one and keep them guessing about the other. Here’s a camera phone shot of my back right leg. Why I haven’t taken a better picture yet, I don’t know.
But anywho, I’m 50/50 Irish/Scottish, so, of course everything in my life is celtic to some degree, leaning one way or the other depending on which side of the family I’m currently with. The tattoo is a ring of celtic knots with a shamrock in the middle, also done in knot work.

now that we’ve talked about some sweet tunes, let’s look at some sweet ink.
Authored by: mike d.I’m a fan of the Sound Opinions podcast, thanks to a recommendation from Ben. They do a year end Mix CD, which I think is cool so I decided to do the same with my friend Pat and we shared our lists and made CDs for each other. Since we aren’t music critics and don’t listen to music nearly as much as Jim and Greg on the podcast, we decided to make a best of 2007 CD for music we discovered or rediscovered in 2007. I made mine by looking at all the music with “Date Added” in 2007 in iTunes.

I wasn’t sure if the assignment was to list your favourite songs from 2007 or list songs which defined 2007. So, while only the last song is from 2007, I think the rest define the year for me within a pretty good mixed EP ranging between rock, blues, reggae, and electronica/80s.
Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same
T-Model Ford - How Many More Years
Tom Waits - I Hope I Don’t Fall In Love With You
Bob Marley - Do It Twice
Chromeo - Bonafied Lovin’
These songs don’t exactly define 2007, but they seemed to be ever-prevalent last year. I guess it’s kinda an eclectic group, but the artists are all generally alt-rock style. This list also seems to be relatively dancable.
Lenlow - Morning
Barenaked Ladies - It’s Only Me (The Wizard Of Magicland)
Self - The End Of It All
DAT Politics - Gravity
They Might Be Giants - Withered Hope
The Space Robots - The Sepasang Naga Squid Cracker
Carol Cleveland Sings - Paperback Writer
Funki Porcini - Nothing To Do
Radio Noise - Save All Your Sadness For Me
Fountains Of Wayne - Strapped For Cash
The Knobs - Amnesia/Deja Vu
The Presidents Of The United States Of America - Boll Weevil
G. Love and Special Sauce - Dreamin’
Tally Hall - Taken For A Ride
Handsomeboy Technique - A Walk Across The Rooftops
Here is my song list for 2007. You should still have my tattoo post. Let me know if you need me to resend it!
1. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC
2. From Her Lips to God’s Ears (The Energizer) - Against Me!
3. Bat Country - Avenged Sevenfold
4. Rooster - Alice in Chains
5. The State of Massachusetts - Dropkick Murphys
6. What’s Left of the Flag - Flogging Molly
7. Sweet Child O’ Mine - Guns N’ Roses
8. Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin
9. Somebody to Love - Queen
10. Badfish - Sublime
11. Open Road Song - Eve 6
12. Eye of the Tiger - Surviror
13. The End. - My Chemical Romance
And now, the reasons for her choices:
1. I feel like there were a particularly large amount of scandals this year, both political and economical. I know there are every year, but I feel like each year things just get more and more unbelievable.
2. This song will probably only be known by fans of this band, but it’s politically motivated and deals with issues like the war in Iraq. Also, they scream Condoleezza!! A lot and it’s fun.
3. This band amazed me by topping the charts this year (I’ve been listening to them for many years now) and I feel like their newest album is some of their best work, yay for Ax7!
4. An oldie but goody. Between the war, Darfur, and the perpetual threat of nuclear war I though this was appropriate.
5. Dropkick’s newest album hit home for many, and this song glorifies their roots in Boston and celebrates its enthusiasm for sports and heritage.
6. This song is incredibly inspiring and reminds us all that it’s worth fighting for what we really believe in, even if things seem hopeless.
7. This song is to celebrate a great new (sort of) tradition we started by going to rock n roll kareoke! This was the first song I sang.
8. 2007 has continually inspired by rock horizons through the discovery of new bands, live performances, and of course taking time to rock out myself!
9. This one again is sort of personal. I went to go see a show called Queen, It’s a Kind of Magic! and it was fantastic. It’s basically a Queen cover band, but they are in full character and costume and put on a “Queen Concert” reminiscent (they assured me) of an authentic Queen show. Since they are one of my favorite bands and that’s the closest I’m ever going to come to actually seeing Queen, it was a big deal for me.
10. Even though the band Sublime has been pretty much out of commission since the death of Bradley Nowell, an amazing thing happened this year. A Sublime cover band, aptly named Badfish, took the nation by storm and on top of selling out shows, managed to get a full spread in Spin magazine. I’ve hung out with these chill dudes from RI, and they never expected to get so popular.
11. This song is all about driving out on the open road and feeling the breeze through your hair. Since I somehow managed to put 25,000 miles on my car in 2007, I thought it was appropriate.
12. I think it’s safe to say this song could get anyone pumped, and this is a tribute to rock climbing and everything about how amazing it is!
13. This is the end of my list. This is also to pay homage to the end of the Harry Potter series. 2007 brought the craze that was Book 7. R.I.P Harry Potter!
Dear Internet,
Today will a day dedicated to song lists, band showdowns, and pictures/stories of tattoos. To be honest, I haven’t checked to see exactly how many entries I got for the day. So there’s a good chance you’ll see some other random stuff in here.
Let’s start with the song lists shall we?
Yours Truly,
Mike D.
