      Conclusion

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

So thats it! I’m glad you all were able to stick with me and if you weren’t then your not reading this, so I can say that you smell bad Sander. But seriously. Some of these things got me thinking about stuff I don’t normally think about that I think is the best way to change yourself. Think outside the box. Try to experience new ideas and other stuff. Hope this wasn’t too boring for you, thanks for reading.

      Not Looking Forward to.

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

(it’s because Kurt says he’s allergic to all fruits and vegetables - likely story!!)

I also am gonna list the days that I am not looking forward to completing. Some of these are just not possible but I’ll try to do them to the best of my ability. I also may get arrested doing some of them.

      Day 224: Cut in line.
Day 185: Join a Political Party.
Day 128: Try a new Fruit (this one could land me in the hospital. If you don’t know why, then too bad.)
Day 115: Today use this pass to violate a law of your choice. (The pass says I have diplomatic immunity according to the Bamako Protocol 1973.)

      Looking Forward To

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Since we are winding down on my days here, I thought I would give a list of some of the days that I’m looking forward to. Whether I think they will be fun, ones I can doo pretty easily, or ones that I am looking forward to the challenge, here they are:

Day 161: Compose a poem and leave it in a public place to brighten someones day.
Day Day 98: No Swearing Day (A real toughie!)
      Day 270: Bake a Cake.

      Day 19!

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Unfortunately I, Mike D, was unable to open Kurt’s Day 19 journal. But what I can say is that the day was dedicated to being a spy.

Hmm. perhaps this was all part of Kurt’s plan.

      Day 18: KILL Something Day

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

side note: I was doing a spell check on this and came across the word “albicans.” Firefox suggested the replacement: “Republicans”

Sounds pretty self explanatory. I really wanted to get into the spirit of this one so I plan on totally destroying several things. One my way to work I looked for any ants or bugs to step on. No luck. I snapped a little sapling in half near the roots. Take that! I did see a spider while at work and I stuck him in the autoclave. Booyah! I thought about killing one of the turkeys that roam the area around my work, but I guess they are on a preserve of some sorts so I didn’t feel like going to jail.

But here is where I think I truly shined. I had read about this one a few days in advance. So I prepped a culture of Candida albicans, a yeast that I have cultures of in the lab, and grew it up for about 3 days or so. So I had about 56 colonies, each which contained several million, if not BILLION individual organisms! I took that entire plate and covered it in Spor-Klenz. Thats a disinfectant which is designed to kill yeast and mold! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!! Billions dead because of me!

      Day 17: Eat Asparagus Day!

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Asparagus will turn your pee a disgusting scent if you eat a lot of it, I guess. I wouldn’t know. I hate the stuff. I think it tastes gross, but the book tells me to eat nothing but asparagus all day. I didn’t eat only asparagus, I had a few modifications. I had little omelet cups with asparagus in it, and for lunch I made a asparagus with chicken roll up. Then for dinner I had some steak but with a ton of asparagus. And let me tell you, it really does work. It smelt horrible. I’m sure you all wanted to know that.

Day 16: Discreetly give people the finger all Day Long

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

This one is right up my alley! I gave this one my all and I think I accomplished it by giving the bird to pretty much everyone I work with. I used the classic Eye Scratch, Glasses push, the little known hand in pocket finger out manouever, as well as the paper holder. I had a blast trying out different and creative ways to let the Finger fly!

Day 15: Be Gay for a Day

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Hmmm……i don’t know how I feel about this one. There are several ways you can take it I think. You could go 100% but I don’t think my wife would be cool with that. I could act all day with the HOllywood stereotypes of what “a gay” would act like, but I don’t agree with them and chose not to do that. I didn’t go along with what the book suggested cause it involved the words carress, chest, and soothingly a little too often. Unfortunately I’m gonna have to pass on this task for now, but I did make a note in the book to come back to this one.

      Day 14: Day of Compliments

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Flatter someone today and see if it really does get you anywhere. Those are the words of encouragement for today. I went right for the head honcho on this one. I complimented both my Manager on her snazzy shoes and sweater vest, as well as my Directors Cool Hat. Slight side note. When I told him I liked his hat he told me he traded a North Korean border guard for it. He had an interesting life before he took this job.

Day 13: Send a Letter to a Mass Murderer

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

They have listed several Mass Murderers here with their address in their correctional facilities or mental institutes. This one is gonna take me a while to write, since I don’t want to just spew mean things to one of the evil people. I decided to look into this and actually write to one of the mentally unstable people, and ask how they are doing. But like I said before I’m gonna take my time writing the letter, so this will be a work in progress for a little while. Who would you write a letter to and why, I’m curious what some of the readers think about this one.

      Day 12: Whats Your Type

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

There is a list of traits that I am supposed to check off for potential mates so when I’m drunk I will know what I like (The books words not mine). I Checked off Clever Brunette. I guess I can’t really check anything else since I live with a Clever Brunette and I don’t enjoy sleeping on the couch.

Day 11: Introduce Yourself to someone you never speak to

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

I chose Mike the guy that I pass in the hallway at work today as the lucky recipient today. He works in the Filling department of my company, and he is six foot 10. He is gigantic. I never spoke to him cause our paths never really cross, but I went out of my way today to talk to him. I was pretty proud of myself.

      Day 10: Meet Jonas Day

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Apparently some dude who was born in 1982 is doing the exact same thing that I am. you can follow his progress on the website of the book ( www.thiswebsitewillchangeyourlife.com). I guess when he saw the apparent love of his life, she was having coffee with her Canadien Mountie Husband….that didnt’ end well for Jonas.

Day 9: Do Something Before Breakfast

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Today I had to accomplish something before breakfast. Some of the suggestions from the book include, “Gossip about your neighbor with the Garbage man” , “Watch the sun rise”, “call a friend and act surprised that they are not up yet”. I went with a pretty mundane task of reading the Boston Herald front to back. I had no idea there were so many ads in that thing. Plus, the Pearls before Swine comics today was funny.

      Day 8: Addiction Free Day

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Kurt’s dedication is intense. Let’s not forget about the time he walked across Rhode Island.

Today I’m supposed to treat my body like the temple that it is. No substances that are at all addictive should enter this dude! This wasn’t that difficult, since I don’t really drink coffee during the week, and i didn’t have any candy all day (ok that was tough). I had a ham sandwich roll up with swiss, and tons of water. It was a pretty easy day.

      Day 7: Free Day!

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

So, today’s task was a little R rated for the MikeD audience so in accordance with my better judgment and with MikeD’s suggestion I’ve decided to use my free day today. What free day do you speak of Kurt? Well since the book has 365 things for me to do and this year has 366 days, I’m floating my Leap Day to today. If you really want to know what the task was for today, post in the comments and I’ll get back in touch with you what it was.

      Day 6: Opening Sentence.

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Write the opening sentence for your Debut novel sounds like a good thing to do, but it was actually kind of tough. Should I be serious? What about some drama, or romance. There is a list of good openers right here like “Call me Ishmael.”, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” and “Hale knew they meant to murder him before he had been in Brighton for three hours.” 3 MikeD points go out to the people who can name those books. But back to the task for today. I went for something I think would fit the First Novel I write pretty good; “Well shit, that wasn’t what I expected.” Tell me what you think.

      Update!

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

      Update!

Well, the update took a little longer than expected. I kept forgetting the sign back at home, but I ended up remembering it this time. I went out to my friends house in Porter square and while I was in Downtown Crossing, I placed the sign up on a Payphone. I quickly left the scene of the crime. I didn’t get a chance to go back home on the T that day, but I am assuming the sign is still there causing all sorts of mayhem and mischief.

      Day 5: Mass Social Experiment.

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Today I am supposed to place a “Out of Order” Sign on something to bring around the breakdown of all American infrastructure. Since I’m not going out today I will be doing this on Day 6. Stay posted for an update!

      Day 4: World Coloring Day

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

So today the book told me to color in all the different countries of the world depending on if I’ve been there (Green), Countries I intend to go to this year (Blue), Countries I would like to go to eventually (Yellow), and countries I could care less about (Red). So I’ve been to Canada, USA, Mexico, a couple Countries in the Carribean, and Belize. Now I counted Alaska as a different countries just for the sake of argument, but I have Alaska, all Latin America and South American Countries, Europe, Russia, and Australia as Countries I would like to visit eventually. I don’t plan on visiting any other countries this year so No blue on this map.

      Day 3: Something you like.

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Today I’m supposed to throw away something I like. Now we are getting somewhere! But what to throw away? I mean, what caliber of like should I grade this on. I like Butter. Should I throw away a stick of butter? I like that book I borrowed from Ben, is that Trash fodder? I guess by pissing Ben off would change my life, but i wanted it to be a little more meaningful in how I change. So I’m sitting here looking at things in my little office and i came to look at my Miniatures. I paint and play Warhammer (Fantasy & 40k) and i really enjoy painting them. I asked my wife what was something I liked and the first thing she said was my minis. I took that as a sign and threw away about a dozen of the miniatures, some fully painted some just assembled. I don’t know how I feel about it. It felt good to make more room on my drafting table, but then I’ve put quite a few hours into making them. I guess we’ll have to see how things feel in the morning.

EDIT: I actually feel pretty good about tossing those guys away. Yay Change!

Day 2: The love of your life.

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

Day 2 picks up the pace on tasks to perform. I’m supposed to look at every person as if they could be the long lost love of my life and act accordingly. Luckily for my health, my safety and my marriage, I ended up staying home sick with a nasty cold so I was able to look at my wife like the soul mate that she is. Perhaps tomorrow will be a bit more productive.

      Day 1: Warm up

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb

The Book has me start off with a simple task for today. I don’t know if they wanted me to not strain a brain muscle but thats cool. There was a collection of 15 or so task to do and they asked me to chose one as my warm up. I did 4. The first one was to fantasize about your partner. We will leave that one right there. The next one was to tell someone my middle name, and Katrina was the lucky recipient of that tidbit of Knowledge. I decided which one of my toes was the prettiest (Big Leftie, FTW), and finally I went on a one minute hunger strike. I struck for the fair treatment of Hollywoods writer’s. Apparently I did those tasks at 1:30 in the morning right after the ball dropped on New years Day, and after I had about 7 drinks. It sure was a good thing that I wrote all this down at the time.

This Book will Change Your Life.

January 19th, 2008 by mike d. in ExtremeWeb, Features

      booklife.PNG

Kurt has made all the posts for today, the 19th of January. Take it away Kurt!

So as most of you know the New Year brings along a slew of resolutions, proclamations, Power Teams, and many other and varied methods to improve yourself. There is a gold mine in Self help books for those people that aren’t satisfied with the way they currently perceive themselves. Now I’m extremely happy with where I am and how things are going in my life so I don’t need any of those things.
That was until last year in March as I was out spending some money on a bunch of new books to read. I usually end my shopping sprees in the humor books, cause who can’t use a good laugh? NO-ONE! Thats who. So I was rummaging and I found this book. This Book Will Change your Life . So I picked it up and didn’t even look at the inside, and purchased it. When I got home I started to leaf through it, and found it to be quite funny. Now there are 365 things to do, one each day of the year. The book is obviously making fun of all those self help books I previously mentioned, and I bet the author didn’t intend for anyone to really follow through with this. I thought it would be a fun little exercise to see if indeed this book would change my life. So I saved the book until this New Years to seriously read through it and actually do Everything that is in the book. So here goes….
