Amen. I just got back from Oregon. There was a low tide at sunset on a perfect, cloudless day. We went to Haystack rock (Goonies) to watch it and take some pictures. When we arrived, there was a photo club from Seattle setting up thousands of dollars worth of equipment. They were doing tiny adjustments and pushing each other out of the way for the best shots. I walked up with my cheap digital camera and took a few photos.

When I looked at the pictures I took, they were amazing. I can't image that any of the photo club's shots were better than what I got on my cheap equipment.

Actually, the bride is in that dress. They wanted to put out the fire, but couldn't justify wasting the water.

"Someday when I get my sweet digital SLR camera…maybe I’ll have time to learn out to take great photographs"

The tool does not an artist make.

Some of the most beautiful photos in the world were shot with a $20 Holga. You can make great pictures with your current crappy digital camera, you just have to find out what it's good at. And with the wealth of photo manipulation software, you can do all the color and exposure, formerly done in the photo lab by professionals (or trained monkeys, depending where you sent your film) yourself, so I say just go for it!

The bride isn't actually in the burning dress. So it's not as hardcore as it looks.

Fantastic photos though. Someday when I get my sweet digital SLR camera...maybe I'll have time to learn out to take great photographs.
