During class on Saturday I took my lunch break outside and used my stunt kite in the parking lot.

Perfect!

It was extremely windy here on Saturday. We had sustained winds of over 35 mph at one point on Saturday, coupled with torrential downpours. It was an epic day of kiteboarding.

Who knew there would be people who appreciate El Nino? (apologies for not knowing how to put the squiggly thing above the second “n”)

If you use a Mac all you have to do is hold the “option” button and press “N”, then let go of the “option” button and press the “N” again. And you have created the ñ (pronounced “en-yay”). And the “squiggly line” is called a tilde.

If you use a PC you’re shit out of luck…in more ways than this. ;-)

for a PC…

hold down ALT, press 1, then 6, then 4 on the numeric keypad, and release ALT, and you get a ñ.

In high school Spanish and French classes, we learned just about all of the accented letter shortcuts. Another useful one is ALT-130, which gets you an é.

I knew someone was going to start a conversation about the shortcuts to various unique characters. I just didn’t know who it would be. Patrick and Caitlin get today’s gold star for dorkdom.

My personal fav: ALT-0223
ß

You could, if you wanted, spell my last name with one of those ALT-0223’s.

I thank Patrick for demonstrating how geek ingenuity decimates all instead of just talking about how the rest of the world is friendly and approachable John Hodgeman instead of snobby and disinterested Justin Long.

Cause that’s what I would have done.

Thanks to Caitlin and Patrick, but I’m not likely to remember anyway.

I’ve heard that once you go Mac you never go back.
