Skyline 20

December 19th, 2006 by mike d. in skyline, Features

tada!

Jon Abad and Roland took the glory this week with their successful identification of Blood Gulch and the WoW Thunder Bluff. Great job dudes!

This week we’re back to ‘real’ skylines and satellite images. So check it out:

Skyline 20!

Satellite 20!

And, if you can shed some light on the significance of the satellite image you’ll be a mikedidonato .com wonder.

Good luck!

Have you stumped everyone this week!?

I’m stumped so far.

But here are some things I’ve determined:
The city layout, building texture, and layout screams ‘old world’.
There’s a massive body of water to the northwest.

My instincts first took me to the United Arab Emirates, where I didn’t find much of anything, and also to the eastern Mediterranean. While I haven’t found the image yet, I think my instincts are close. Check out El Mina, Lebanon, which is like a little sister to this week’s satellite image:

I found the nearly complete lack of trees or greenery in the main building area of the satellite very interesting.

The statement:

“And, if you can shed some light on the significance of the satellite image you’ll be a mikedidonato .com wonder”

is a hint.

Obviously, not a very good one.

Ohhh…. I think I know what the hint is….

I’ll let you know in a few minutes.

Yep, I got it. Thanks for the hint, Mike D.

I was soooo close without it, though. In fact, I probably skimmed over this once or twice (I *knew* the body of water, I just couldn’t find the city!), since when you’re zoomed out a few levels, it’s hard to notice the peninsula because the water is a little fuzzy in the image.

This is a conspiracy!

I would argue that being a wonder of mike d’s website is a paltry achievement in comparison to this satellite image.
