      Rain

December 11th, 2006 by mike d. in Quickthoughts

It’s raining in Texas and will be until Wendesday when I leave and the skies clear.
On Wednesday the rain system will have moved north to New England.
So I’m lucky enough to get to experience the same rain system twice.
      Awesome.

      Cowboy hat

December 11th, 2006 by mike d. in Quickthoughts

I kind of want a cowboy hat. But I don’t think I’d be able to pull it off.

      Stained Glass Cookies

December 11th, 2006 by mike d. in Food, Features

      pretty!

To prep for the AWESOME Christmas cookie exchange that my workplace will be having at the end of December, I decided to do a little cookie baking on Saturday night.

Ruth and Old Man Schenk came by first to go climbing and second to help with the masterful cookies.

We made Stained Glass Cookies. It’s relatively simple, though mildly tedious. All that you gotta do is make a butter, sugar, and honey batter. Add some flour. Freeze it until the dough is workable then cut into fun star shapes.

      Cookie Cutting Madness!

Then cut out a second shape in the middle of the first.

      Madness I tell you, MADNESS!

Fill the centers with crushed life savers and then cook in the oven at 325 for about 5-7 minutes. The life savers melt and become somewhat translucent hard candy ’stained glass.’

      Deliciously Pretty

They are pretty to look at, but overall, not a fun or delicious cookie to bake.

      Difficulty: 5.9-
      Deliciousness: 5.6
      Prettiness: 5.11c
      Annoyingness: 5.11c

      Back in Texas

December 11th, 2006 by mike d. in A Day In The Life...

      currently eating: BBQ?

So I’m back in JonAbad’s stomping ground. Texas has been surgically inserting itself into my life again and again. This is a very odd thing. Texas is a state that I really never expected to get to know. But sure enough, I’m becoming familiar with driving around this state and recognizing landmarks.

At this point, Texas may claim the number three spot of “state in which I’ve spent the most time,” with CT at number two and MA dominating first place with a 20-21 year lead.

This week will be a little wild. I have a decent amount of work to do in Houston. I leave Wednesday morning to return to CT just in time for my advanced dynamics final. Awesome! Then it’s homework and kung fu through Saturday afternoon when I will be able to relax a bit and head up for an authentic McQuaid Christmas gathering. good times will be had.

I don’t recall the last time I saw Mr. McQuaid. has it been over a year?
