Oh Coca Cola, how I hate thee

November 17th, 2006 by mike d. in school

currently eating: eggs

I had a soda last night at 8pm. And as it often does, caffeine pulled out a crossbow of eternal sleeplessness and shot me square between the eyes.

So I stayed up until 4am working on MBA junk. The good thing is that I finished all the work I have to do for those classes. The bad thing is that two and a half hours of sleep makes for a rather uncomfortable morning.

WEAK! I do this at least once every other week with usually one all-nighter per course.

During our breaks between fall/spring semesters, we’ll have to do some sleep deprivation training exercises to get you ready.

Don’t listen to him. He’s crazy.

Just work on your caffeine tolerance instead.
Or only drink kid-sized cokes…

I agree. Tim’s sleep dependency, or lack there of, is absolutely crazy.

The thing is, I knew I should only have had half a coke. But no one wanted to share. I blame them for my tiredness today.

Well, I was up till 2am last night. I could have drove down and grabbed that 1/2 a coke from you. :)

Small amounts of caffeine just make me sleepy. I have to have several cans of pop, or cups of coffee, before it will interfere with my sleep. But I’ve always had trouble getting to sleep anyway.

Me too. It always takes me about an hour or more to fall asleep. Aside from the one cup I make in the morning, I rarely have caffeine, though.

There’s an easy way to fix this. Do as I do, and drink an *enormous* amount of Diet Coke every day. After a short time you will have gained caffeine super-powers which allow you to drink any amount of soda/coffee and fall asleep instantly.

I wish one coke kept me up that long sometimes! When I need to pull a late night (as I did last night) even a grande americano doesn’t always do the trick for more than a couple hours. I can sympathize with the caffeine super-powers too….it’s frustrating when you drink coffee to stay awake in class and find yourself asleep anyway! I think I may have an addiction…..

I drink one soda a day, and only when I drink it within a few hours of going to bed does it interfere with my ability to get to sleep. The only headache medicine that works for me happens to have caffeine in it, and it does keep me awake so if I have a headache at night I’m just out of luck. And these aren’t your grandmother’s headaches. These are whoppers.

I’ll see your headaches and raise you a back spasm. Those are nasty. Prescription muscle relaxants help me get back to sleep after a spasm, but they take two hours to really work. I have had one hazy day today. 4 mg and my day is down the drain. I hate those things, but at least my back doesn’t hurt anymore.
