Rubber Star

Here’s a “how to” for making a star out of a rubber band.

Step 1:

Hold a rubber band between the index and thumb of your right hand.

Step 2:

Point your left hand finger and slide it under the leftmost strand of the rubber band

Step 3:

grab the rightmost strand of the rubber band

Step 4:

pull your left hand back

Step 5:

Turn your left hand so that it is palm up

Step 6:

Replace your left index finger with your right pinky finger.

Step 7:

Compare your results with the picture above!

Step 8:

This picture shows the top view of your hand.

Step 9:

Take your left index finger and slide it inside the triangle formed between your thumb and the two strands leaving your thumb. Then bring your left index finger up to the opposite rubber band strand.

Step 10:
good
Grab the strand and pull your finger back. Pull it all the way out.

Step 11:

Compare with the picture above, and prepare to reach with your left middle finger under the rubber strand leaving your right pinky. Then grab the closest middle rubber band strand.

Step 12:

Pull your index back and adjust your fingers until you have a beautiful rubber band star.

Great job! Join us next time as we embellish the rubber band star with an “inner star.”

It’s really hard to scroll down with a rubber band all tangled up in your hand.

This is not something I considered in making up this post. Were you successful in your rubber band star creation?

I am so trying this at work tomorrow. Sometimes I try to see how long I can spin a rubber band on my finger before it flies off in a random direction or gets tangled with my hand. It’s surprisingly hard to keep it going for longer than 30 seconds or so.

Done and done. I had to mod it to a one-handed version so I could take a picture though.

This was hard, but I got it. Strangely, I don’t feel that I’ve accomplished anything.

I’m not even attempting this, but in honor of those who did, I will sing You Are My Lucky Star.

I used to make these when I was younger and I had forgotten the last step! Thanks to you, I had something to occupy my time while stuck in a cubicle. :]

You know, i already know how to do a double star (or a star with an inner star in it) when i was 6 years old. Pretty easy to make now, since i practise for years.
