April 29th, 2005 by mike d. in Conversations

currently eating: an orange

Boss (looking out window): Did you see my new car?
mike d: which one is it?
Boss: The one in the far corner.
mike d: whoa, did you get a good deal?
Boss: yeah, the guy tried to screw me at first. . . but then I pulled out my programmable calculator.

never leave home without your programmable calculator!

the real question is either: what car did he get or what calculator he uses (HP forever!)

In several years when my bank account is higher and I go to get the A4, I’m definitely bringing my 83+.

When the salesman tries to screw me on the price, I’ll be like “oooohh reallly….hmmm” and start punching a bunch of buttons with a concerned look on my face. Dude will be so scared, and he won’t even know that I’m playing Tetris or something. Sucker.

I think it’d be more frightening if you busted out matlab or something and started plotting crazy 3d visualizations of random things.

Which if you ditched your sissy TI’s and went with my HP 48G you could do!

And the A4 is awesome, tim. Good choice. Though I’d go with the A4 Avant or A3.

well, this has nothing to do with what you just wrote but it reminded me to tell you about a conversation Jonathan & I had about you the other day. It went something like this…

(we were talking about 70’s beach party: the sequel and you came up, naturally)

Jonathan: You know…Mike D is the only person i know who could actually be a rockstar.

Me: Oh i know what you mean, he’s really dreamy.

Jonathan: Yeah, he’s definitley quite dreamy…

(and then it got quiet because we both took a moment to think about how dreamy you really are)

you should have probably been in the car at that moment.

48G! I’ve had mine forever (10 years, I think).

Ah, an A4 Avant is a good choice, but I’d prefer a Volvo V50.

I got mine free when I bought my HP Laserjet 4L to go with my 486DX2. But, I still have two of these products and they work! And it’s not the 486.

But seriously, HP is awesome.

I wasn’t expecting such an outpouring of comments regarding calculators. Perhaps I under estimated the general geekiness of mikedidonato.com readers.

And Amber: thanks. that makes my day.
